Visit of the Permanent Representative of the USA to NATO to Greece (18 – 21 Mar 26)

The Director-General of the General Directorate of National Defence Policy and International Relations (GDNDPIR) of the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence, Ambassador a.h. Michel Spinellis, accompanied the United States Permanent Representative to NATO, Ambassador Matthew Whitaker, during an official visit to Greece from Wednesday, March 18 to Saturday, March 21, 2026.

The visit was conducted within the framework of defence diplomacy, in order to highlight the pivotal role of Greece within NATO, particularly the strategic importance of Chania and Alexandroupoli. These regions are recognized for their capacity to provide high-level, specialized, and comprehensive training across critical defence sectors of the Alliance, as well as for their significant contribution to the logistical sustainment of allied forces, especially those of the United States.

The visit reaffirmed the strong bilateral defence ties between Greece and the United States and underscored Greece’s continued commitment to supporting NATO’s mission and operational readiness.
