Alternate General Director of National Defence Policy and International Relations:
Brigadier General Fotios Armpis was born in 1972 in Patras. He entered the Hellenic Army Academy in 1990, graduated in 1994, and was named Second Lieutenant of the Infantry.
In his military career, he has served in battalion-level units (211th Infantry Battalion) and Mechanised Infantry Battalion units (Lagos, Didymoteicho, 516th Mechanised Infantry Battalion), but also as Platoon, and subsequently as Company Commander of the “Evzones”, at the Presidential Guard.
In addition, he was Commander of Unit, at the 640th Mechanised Infantry Battalion (Soufli, 2016-2018), and of an Independent Sub-unit, at the 79th Antitank National Guard Company (Samos, 2012-2014), but also, Chief of Staff of the 7th Infantry Mechanised Brigade in Provatonas, Evros (2015-16).
He was staff officer of the Multinational Education Department, in the Education Directorate of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS/B2).
From 2021 to 2024 he served in Brussels, in the Permanent Representation of Greece to the European Union, as representative of the National Armaments Director and as representative in the European Defence Agency (EDA).
In September 2024, he was appointed as Director of the International Relations Directorate in the General Directorate of National Defence Policy and International Relations of the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence (GDNDPIR).
In January 2025, he was promoted to the rank of Brigade General and, following a relevant decision by the Minister of National Defence, he was appointed as Alternate Director General of the GDNDPIR.
He successfully attended all the compulsory Infantry Schools and, in addition, he graduated from the Hellenic Army Command and General Staff College (HACGS), the Supreme Joint War College (HSJWC), and the Hellenic National Defence College (HNDC).
He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Department of International, European and Regional Studies of the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. He additionally holds a Master in Science from the Department of Turkish Studies and Modern Asian Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
He has been honored with all the military decorations, medals and commemorations of his rank.
He speaks English and Italian.
