Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Defence Policy Directorates of Greece & Israel

The General Directorate of National Defence Policy and International Relations of the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence, as part of its activities to strengthen the bilateral defence relations between Greece and Israel, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in cooperation with the respective Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Israel.

In particular, the General Director of National Defence Policy and International Relations of the Ministry of National Defence, Dr. Konstantinos P. Balomenos held a working meeting on 05 July 2022 with his Israeli counterpart Brigadier General (Res.) Dror Shalom on the margins of the proceedings of the Economist Conference in Lagonisi (26th Annual Economist Government Roundtable).

During the meeting, inter alia, security threats and challenges, as well as regional developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region and the Middle East in general, were discussed. In particular, the General Director of National Defence Policy and International Relations, Dr. Konstantinos P. Balenos referred to Turkey’s escalating, destabilising and unlawful actions, which, by adopting hybrid tactics, continues to promote its revisionism.

In addition, new prospects for further deepening of Greece-Israel defence cooperation were discussed and the joint determination to further strengthen defence and military cooperation to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean region was highlighted.

The two officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning bilateral cooperation in the field of academic study of the geostrategic security environment in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, the production of strategic studies and the co-organisation of educational activities in our territory and Israel.

The bilateral contact took place in a very warm climate, confirming the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries.
