The General Director of National Defence Policy and International Relations, Dr Konstantinos P. Balomenos, had a working meeting on the 2nd of June 2021, at the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence, with the Chief of the Political Section of the Embassy of Japan in Greece, Mr. Yoshi Abe, in the framework of the bilateral defence relations between Greece and Japan.

During the meeting, topics/areas of common interest were discussed and was examined the extension of cooperation on military training activities, exercises and co-training at bilateral and multilateral level.

In particular, they had the opportunity to exchange views on issues of mutual interest regarding the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially regarding the Olympic Games in Tokyo. In addition, the prospect of developing defence cooperation against hybrid threats and other challenges faced by each country was also explored.

The debate confirmed the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries. Finally, the General Director invited his counterpart to discussions on the further deepening of bilateral relations between Greece and Japan.
