The General Director of National Defence Policy and International Relations of the Ministry of National Defence, Dr. Konstantinos Balomenos, at the invitation of the Commander of the Special Warfare Command of the Hellenic Army National Defence General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Tsitsikostas, participated on Wednesday 08 June 2022 as keynote speaker in the Seminar entitled: “A holistic approach to defence”, organised by that Command.
The seminar took place from Wednesday 08 June 2022 to Thursday 09 June 2022, under the auspices of NATO Special Operations Headquarters, at the Armed Forces Officers Club (LAED).
Apart from specialised military personnel of all branches of the Armed Forces, representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Citizen Protection, Interior, Digital Governance, Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, as well as the National Intelligence Service (NIS) participated in the exercise.
The aim of the seminar was to understand NATO’s perception of the holistic approach to Defence and the specificities of hybrid threats, the crucial role of the Special Operations Units in all phases of the Holistic Defence, the development of the methodology for dealing with them with the synergy of inter-service actors, the strengthening of the spirit of cooperation between the participants, as well as the cultivation of a common understanding in addressing modern security threats.
During the seminar, speeches were given by the Commander of the Special Warfare Command Lieutenant General Georgios Tsitsikostas, the General Director of National Defence Policy and International Relations of the Ministry of National Defence and International Relations, Dr. Konstantinos Balomenos and the Director of the Institute of International Relations (IDIS) Dr. Charalambos Papasotiriou.
