Informal Meeting of Defence Policy Directors of the Member States of the European Union (Dublin, 09 July 26)

The Director-General of the General Directorate of National Defence Policy and International Relations (GDNDPIR) of the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence, Ambassador a.h. Michel Spinellis, participated in the EU Defence Policy Directors’ Meeting held in Dublin on 09 July 2026.

In the first part of the Summit, which focused on military support for Ukraine, the future of the “EUMAM UKRAINE” mission was discussed, along with the strengthening of strategic cooperation between the EU defence industry and Ukraine, within the framework of the Union’s contribution to security guarantees for Kyiv. The First Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Mr Serhii Boyev, participated in the meeting via videoconference, providing the Directors with an update on the situation in the field, and outlining his country’s most pressing requirements.

During the second segment of the meeting, European officials were briefed on preparations for the potential launch of a mission in Lebanon under the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy, as well as on the latest progress concerning the 2030 agenda for defence readiness.

The Summit concluded with an exchange of views on maritime security, concentrating on how the EU’s security and defence initiatives can uphold international law and freedom of navigation, protect critical maritime infrastructure, and combat hybrid threats.
