The General Directorate of National Defence Policy and International Relations (GDNDPIR) of the Ministry of National Defence, on Monday, March 27, 2023, convened the 1st Interministerial Information Conference on National Resilience, which took place in the auditorium of the War Museum, with the participation of representatives (General Directors, or Directors) from all the Ministries and Regions of Greece.
The purpose of the Conference — in the context of coordinated efforts to strengthen our country’s resilience, in view of the NATO Defence Ministers meeting in Vilnius (July 2023) — was to inform the participants about the concept of state resilience, as well as to analyse the essential requirements for its achievement, both within NATO and at national level.
In particular, the need to set up a National Resilience Committee with members/representatives from all Ministries and bodies of the Greek Public Administration was stressed. The main task of this Committee will be to formulate a National Resilience Strategy and to take initiatives at the operational level to enhance our country’s resilience.
During the 1st Interministerial Conference, the following themes were also developed:
• Definition of the concept of Resilience.
• The new framework of the NATO Resilience Committee.
• Resilience as the cornerstone of the National Resilience Strategy.
• Assessment of Resilience, for our country at a national level, and finally,
• A national Roadmap of Actions was presented, defining the actions to be taken ahead of the NATO Ministerial Meeting in Vilnius (July 2023), while outlining the development of a National Resilience Plan and National Resilience Goals, as well as the Harmonisation of National Resilience Plans of NATO member states.
The meeting was attended by the Director of the A6 Directorate of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, Policy Director for Civil Preparedness, Brigadier General Spyridon Yoltzopoulos.
Also, the main rapporteur for this meeting was the General Director of National Defence Policy and International Relations of the Ministry of National Defence Dr. Konstantinos Balomenos, who has been assigned the duties of Senior National Representative (SNR) of Greece to the Resilience Committee of NATO.
