On Wednesday, 15 April 2026, the Director-General of the General Directorate of National Defence Policy and International Relations (GDNDPIR) of the Hellenic Ministry of National Defence, Ambassador a.h. Michel Spinellis, held bilateral consultations in Thessaloniki with his Austrian counterpart, Dr Arnold Kammel. These talks were conducted under the auspices of defence diplomacy and specifically aimed at enhancing bilateral defence cooperation between Greece and Austria.

The principal thrust of the discussions focused on the strengthening of defence ties between the two nations, both bilaterally and within the framework of the European Union. Additionally, the security situation and recent geopolitical developments in the Middle East and the Western Balkans were addressed.

Following the conclusion of the bilateral consultations, the Defence Policy Directors acknowledged the excellent level of defence collaboration between the two countries.

On the sidelines of the forgoing discussions, the Austrian delegation had the opportunity to tour military installations, services, and training centres in the region, where they were briefed on their operations and mission.
