The General Directorate of National Defence Policy and International Relations (DGNDPIR), of the Ministry of National Defence (MoD), organises for the first time in Greece an International High Level Conference on “Sustainable Development and Regional Integration in the Mediterranean within the Current Context of Security Challenges and Threats”, with the participation of 25 countries.
The event will take place from 21 to 24 February 2023, at the Auditorium “Lieutenant (HAF) Nikolaos Sialmas” of the Hellenic Air Force Academy in Tatoi, with the participation of Ambassadors and senior officials of foreign countries, senior officials of International Organisations, as well as high ranking staff of the Armed Forces and the wider public sector.
The aim of the conference is to address sustainable development and regional integration in the Mediterranean region, under the existing framework of challenges and threats to international security. In addition, the impact of these challenges and threats on the wider geopolitical environment of the Mediterranean, and their implications for the national security of our country will be studied, and holistic strategies will be presented to address them.
The Speakers of the conference will be Greek Ministers, Ambassadors and senior officials from foreign countries, senior NATO, EU and UN officials, as well as distinguished academics and experts from Greece and abroad.
The Conference will cover the following thematic sessions:
• The Mediterranean through the Centuries (historical evolution, strategic analysis, impact).
• Challenges, Threats and Opportunities in the Mediterranean Region.
• Ongoing Conflicts and Disputes.
• Security Trends in the Mediterranean Region.
• Hybrid Threats in the Mediterranean Region.
• The Role of International Organisations in the Mediterranean Region.
• Cooperation and Defence Industry in the Mediterranean Region.
• Crisis Management Mechanisms in the Mediterranean Region.
• National Resilience — Resistance.
• Greece as a Key Player in the Mediterranean Geopolitical Environment.
Political officials and high-ranking military personnel, representatives of foreign states, International Organisations, Institutes of International Relations and Strategic Studies, as well as stakeholders from relevant services of our country (Ministries, General Staffs, Organisations, Universities, Institutes, etc.) will participate in the conference which will be held in English.
