On Monday 17 January 2022, the General Director of National Defence Policy and International Relations of the Ministry of National Defence, Dr Konstantinos Balomenos, held a lecture at the “Kapodistrias” Hall of the Ministry of National Defence to the students of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, namely the 26th class of Embassy Attachés, on National Defence Policy.
The lecture took place in the framework of visits of the Diplomatic Academy to Services and Units of the Armed Forces in Attica, Larissa and Crete.
During his lecture, the General Director presented the administrative structure and responsibilities of the General Directorate of National Defence Policy and International Relations of the Ministry of National Defence. He focused on the different modules of the National Defence Policy, as well as to the factors that shape it.
In particular, the General Director, Dr. Konstantinos Balomenos, referred to the current developments in the international environment, the objectives and principles of National Defence Policy, the assessment of the political and military situation, the basic principles of organisation and operation of the Armed Forces and the national strategic dogma.
Finally, Dr Konstantinos Balomenos referred to the provisions of Law 4622/19 (on Executive State) with regard to the role of the Government Council of National Security in shaping interministerial policies and making decisions on the country’s security. In addition, he provided information on National Security Strategy which is currently under elaboration.
At the end of the lecture, the General Director of National Defence Policy and International Relations received numerous interesting questions from the students of the Diplomatic Academy, while the Director of Studies, Plenipotentiary Minister II, Mrs. Niki Kambas, thanked him both for the detailed presentation and the constructive discussion that followed it with the participation of all the trainees.
