The General Director of the General Directorate of National Defence Policy and International Relations (GDNDPIR) of the Ministry of National Defence, Ambassador a.h. Michel Spinellis, in the broader context of defence diplomacy and in particular the strengthening of bilateral defence relations between Greece and Romania, held bilateral consultations with the Director of Defence Policy of the Ministry of National Defence of Romania, Ms Simona COJOCARU, at the headquarters of the GDNDPIR in Athens.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the handover of the Secretariat/Presidency of the SEDM (South Eastern Defence Ministerial Process), of which Ms. COJOCARU was the President, from Romania to Greece.
The main focus of the talks was the NATO Summit in The Hague (24-25 June 25) and the adoption of the new defence spending investment plan of 5% of GDP, as well as the horizons opened for the defence industry, through the ReArm Europe initiative to strengthen Europe’s defence capabilities, and the European Union’s SAFE financial instrument. The security situation and current geopolitical developments in Ukraine, the Black Sea and the Balkans were also discussed.
The two Defence Directors acknowledged the excellent level of defence cooperation between the two countries.
