4th QUAD Meeting of Defence Policy Directors of Greece – Cyprus – France – Italy (Athens, 05 November 24)

On 5 November 2024, the 4th QUAD Meeting of Defence Policy Directors of Greece-Cyprus-France-Italy, coordinated by the General Directorate of National Defence Policy and International Relations of the Ministry of National Defence, was completed in the framework of the Quad Initiative (QUAD) and following the completion of the aeronautical exercise “EUNOMIA-5-2024”, which took place in the Eastern Mediterranean region, from 11 to 18 September 2024.

The purpose of the activities of this European Initiative is to maintain and improve the interoperability and cooperation of the Armed Forces of the four countries, as well as to strengthen their common naval and air presence in the Eastern Mediterranean.

During the consultations, the shared determination to further strengthen defence and military cooperation was identified, with a view to promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean. The main operational lessons from the EUNOMIA-5-2024 military exercise were presented and current security challenges and threats, as well as regional developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, were discussed.

Finally, views and proposals were elaborated for the formulation of a common framework of actions regarding the safeguarding of freedom of navigation, peace and stability in the region, the programme of future activities of the Quad initiative was agreed and a Joint Communiqué was drafted.
