The International Law – Military Agreements Section includes the International Law and Military Agreements offices. This Section is responsible for:
➢ Monitoring, evaluating and making recommendations on matters of International Law which pertain to or affect the National Defence Policy and the multilateral or bilateral defence relations of the country. It is constantly in touch with the respective departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for coordination and cooperation purposes.
➢ Handling policy issues concerning arms control and International Law in relation to the country’s participation in international organisations or in the framework of bilateral relations.
➢ Keeping archives of international agreements and other texts that govern national territory, territorial waters, national airspace and corresponding issues. In addition, it keeps particular archives of international agreements – treaties that concern the Balkans or third countries and affect the country’s national defence.
➢ Legally processing the texts of defence cooperation agreements signed between Greece and third countries. It is also responsible for dispatching and seeking signature of all the relevant Presidential decrees, joint Ministerial decisions or other draft bills that concern the ratification of agreements that the Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs, or other Ministers, sign, and for their implementation by the relevant MoD bodies.
